Razer carcharias professional pc gaming headset reviews

As such, they're not only gamer suitable — almost anyone who wanted a decent quality set of headphones could do well with the Carcharias. The drop-down microphone is arguably the only part of the package which doesn't quite live up to the hardcore gamer billing.

It's flexible, which is a nice touch, but feels to be made of a much cheaper plastic, and we have our doubts as to its survival in the longer term. The final design note has to go to the name. For those not in the know, Razer tends to use shark names for its gaming headphone products, and Carcharias is indeed a shark. Most people are scared of sharks, so that's a great name, right?

Well, not exactly, at least in the Australian context. The local Carcharias species that most Aussies would be familiar with would be the Grey Nurse Shark, noted for being relatively slow, placid creatures. We're not sure that's the image that Razer was after, all things considered.

Features The Carcharias headphones have stereo speakers naturally enough with a stated frequency response of ,Hz and a rated power of mW via two 40mm drivers.

The microphone, which drops down from a pretty standard plastic boom, has unidirectional pick-up which could be interesting in a crowded LAN party situation and a stated frequency response of ,Hz. So even the most squeal-prone of gamers should be covered there. Volume is controlled via an in-line microphone that sits in the middle of the Carcharias 3m cable. Luckily, Razer provides a whopping three meter long braided fiber cable that is so long Rapunzel could have used it to climb down from her tower.

You can also adjust the size of the headset to fit gamers with bigger-sized heads. This remote is a bit bigger than the one you would find on a pair of headphones targeting music fans, making them easier to locate on-the-fly, especially mid game. A clip further enables users to attach the inline controller to their shirt, which can be handy if you prefer this to remain at a set location. This mic is placed on a sturdily constructed boom, which can be conveniently positioned out of sight when not in use.

As a dedicated gaming headset, the Carcharias impressed us with its clear, undistorted audio performance and decent dollop of bass, thanks to its 40 mm drivers.

The latter are able to crank out more than dB, enabling loud playback of gaming sound or music. Even though this is a gaming headset, we did listen to music and utilised the headphones for a more personal movie watching experience. We found that the Carcharias delivered distortion free tunes even when you crank the volume up and also impressed with its bass response,.

We were really impressed with the overall sound quality we got while listening to various music samples and movies. The headset did a great job balancing the treble and bass in tracks off of Girl Talk's "Feed the Animals" CD and performed well during a heavier rock session we threw at it with Thrice's "Illusion of Safety" record.

Movies also sounded vibrant and rich when we tried out selected scenes from "Cloverfield. Overall, the Carcharias PC gaming headset is by far the most comfortable and best-sounding device we've tested in a while. Jeff Bakalar. Razer Carcharias Gaming Headset Black.

The Good Provides a thick, rich sound; very comfortable; solid mic performance; great for gaming, music, VoIP chatting; lightweight; extra-long cable.

Boom mic isn't as adjustable as we would have liked. The Carcharias is by far the most comfortable, best-sounding PC gaming headset we've tested in a while. The boom mic performs great; we just wish it was a bit more adjustable.
