Fluidity and flexibility are important, but to transform society you need more than that. You need a vision. You need a different way of looking at the world.
The words of Isaiah, Micah, and others authorized an alternative vision of the world. May the eulogies for James Cone continue to rise among us.
The entire transcript can be accessed here. James Cone was not just an academic theologian. He lived life-or-death. His theology was grounded in the cry of black blood, the wailing of black suffering, the moans and groans of black hurt and black pain, and it was trying to convince us not just to have courage, but fortitude.
A Nazi soldier can be courageous and still be a thug; fortitude is courage connected to magnanimity and greatness of character. That is what we are looking for. James Cone served, he sacrificed for the least of these, he tried to hold up the bloodstained banner with a level of spiritual nobility and moral royalty already enacted by Lucy, already enacted by Charlie, already enacted by the best of his church by the time he began to interact with vanilla brothers and sisters.
He was misunderstood, he was misconstrued. He had charitable Christian hatred: he hated the sin, but still tried to love the sinner. And the problem is so easy. A recent report from Matthew Albright on Dr. Day 23 of our Lenten Journey through Dr. I would like to suggest five concrete things that our government should do to begin the long and difficult process of extricating ourselves from this nightmarish conflict:.
Number two: Declare a unilateral cease-fire in the hope that such action will create the atmosphere for negotiation. Three: Take immediate steps to prevent other battlegrounds in Southeast Asia by curtailing our military buildup in Thailand and our interference in Laos. Four: Realistically accept the fact that the National Liberation Front has substantial support in South Vietnam and must thereby play a role in any meaningful negotiations and any future Vietnam government.
Five: Set a date that we will remove all foreign troops from Vietnam in accordance with the Geneva Agreement. West was offered a position in the Obama administration, why in holy hell would he not take it? Why would he turn down a direct line to the powers that be? Why would he rather do his work from a crack house than from the power base of our government? Why would he chose his current place in lieu of a position of actual power and ability to influence and change the issues that he so emphatically claims need the direct attention of higher government?
Dyson spoke of how he has not been invited to the White House despite being the first prominent Black person to endorse Obama. He is clearly upset at not being offered a seat at the very same table that he proceeds to criticize at length. He even went so far as to reprimand Obama for not mentioning Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Does Dyson think he tried to trick America? Perhaps some spiritual leader from Russia!
No one would think MLK. Could someone explain to me at exactly what point my interests were sacrificed? We gots ta get some black ish handled! A lot of people asked what would happen if America ever had a Black President.
He is a free thinker who will not be bound by a country who still doesn't take the plight of all of its citizens seriously. West is a part of a group of Black intelligentsia that sees it as their job to step up and police President Obama on his dealings on Blackness. West, Tavis Smiley, Michael Eric Dyson and others see themselves as the voice of the Black plight and will not allow Obama to ignore the very people that got him into office! With constant cries for racially charged fixes for issues within the black community, they stand at the sidelines with their noses held in disgust at his lack of true understanding, or better yet, lack of actual caring about the issues of, as Dyson keeps yelling, the people who put him in office.
If Dr.
There isn't a good answer. Just like Dyson's recent rant on Obama "playing Black people," this is just as ridiculous.
Obama didn't say King's name.
